Maybe we can get you on the Maury show with an overweight 18 year old in tattoos and a tank top and let Maury pull out the envelope with the DNA test results and decide who's the father of the internet baby.

Let's all say it one more time - "Jim Howard did the first blog in 1982 from Belton Missouri". He created the blog without anyone to pattern it after - with nobody there to record the event or erect a marker on the site - but he did it. He and a lot of other guys working totally independently across the country using dialup BBS connections - inventing everything as they went along.

Since we don't know those other guys and we do know Jim we'll give him first honors. He has used the term Notebook since the beginning and you keep a log in a notebook so he's got proper claim to the title.

I came along a few years after his 1982 startup - 1985 via our Kaypro II and Jim was doing pretty much then what he's doing now - commenting on tech things and social things - pretty steady course on his politics and interests.

Has never made a dime on any of it nor tried very hard to make a dime on it. Not many cotton plants have given their lives to his wardrobe in 22 years and he's still crashing and rebuilding regularly - actually less often now than back then.

Another twenty years? 2027 -Jim'll be trying out some new software and we'll have a wireless connection right into our cerebral cortex by then - no need for keyboard or monitors.

Who's the father?

Declan McCullagh and Anne Broache are writers for CNET News.Com and they have written a story called "Blogs turn 10--who's the father?"  The subject of the story is "Someone, somewhere created the very first Web log.  It's just not quite clear who."

They list a lot of names and some dates.  You will not find the name "Jim Howard" listed and you will not find June of 1982.

"...Was the first blogger the irascible Dave Winer? The iconoclastic Jorn Barger? Or was the first blogger really Justin Hall, a Web diarist and online gaming expert whom The New York Times Magazine once called the "founding father of personal blogging"?..."

If you check out the story they have a box with "Blogs: The evolution" and they have January 1994 Justin Hall begins compiling lists of links at his site.  I started doing that in June of 1982!  I only listed local sites so the list only had about 4 sites, for Kansas City, listed.  I did that for years and years until a local "SysOp" organization took over the project.  I even did linking and this is before there was a world wide web.  (The www started in 1995 if I remember correct.)  So around 1983 or 1984 people could dial into my bulletin board system at 300 baud or 1200 baud and connect with Howard's Notebook and find a list of other sites and click on it and dial out via my other modem and phone line and connect with the other site.

In March of 1984 Ric Manning wrote in "Link-Up" magazine about my site. Part of what Ric says is;  "...One of the menu choices is a chatty letter from Howard that discusses his latest tinkering with the system or his opinions on the general state of BBS communication.  Another menu choice reviews excerpts from Howard's fan mail, and a third contains information on computer groups, local BBS numbers and computer ham networks..."
Folks I say that was a blog and that was the birth of ShowMeBlog. 

The CNET story list the next date on the evolution list as January 1995 with Carolyn Burke publishes her first entry for Carolyn's Diary. 
Well friends I am happy she started to blog but what took her 11 years?  I had been doing a blog for 11 years at the point in time.

I could go on looking at the "evolution" list but what is the point?

If your looking for the someone who created the very first Web log well you found him here.   If your wondering where it was created and started it all started in Belton, Missouri in June of 1982.

It began in June of 1982 and it is still going.  For many years I called it Howard's Notebook and it is still on line but I blog now under the name of "ShowMeBlog.

I am not looking to take credit away from any of the other people.  They may have been out their doing their thing and that is great.  I just feel that the history should be clear.

I made 2 cents and I spent?

I told you that I just got a saving account for the first time in years.  I put $20.00 in the account and I just made 2 cents in interest.  Since I am rich I should treat myself to something correct?
I got a new video card.  It is a PNY nVidia GeForce 7600 GS.  It has 512 MB of DDR2 memory.  I see improvements in my video but I don't play games so I do not see the real big power.  This card is Vista ready.  Am I Vista ready?

I will be selling my old video card on eBay.  I have not listed it yet.  It is a Norwood Micro ATI Radeon 9250.  It is AGP.  It has 256 MB of DDR memory.  If your interested in buying it make an offer before I put it on eBay.

I should have paid the $40.00!

This is going to be short.  I just wrote a long post for here.  I did not save my work as I was working and the computer locked up on me and I lost my work.
I am just not in the mood to type all of that post all over again.

Today is the last day I can ride free on the Metro system.  I need to get down and get my new life time card so I can ride free.  I am not sure I feel like it today.  My left foot is swollen so much it feels like it is going to explode.

Three Dead at Ward Parkway Shopping Center

I have not had the TV on today.  I did just went to CNN (web site) and I see there was a shooting today at Ward Park Way Shopping Center in Kansas City MO. 
Interesting if you go to the Shopping Center link  you will see "Now Hiring Security Officers" and starting pay is $9.50 an hour. 

I have been to that mall many times.  It has been around since 1959.  I never worked security at that mall.  I worked at Oak Park Mall in Overland Park KS.  All my family has been to the mall often.
The mall began in 1959 the year I got out of high school. 

One thing interesting about the mall, for me, was that they used off duty Kansas City MO police officers.  The officers, who were off duty but in their police uniforms, would write their own tickets on cars.  The department told them they could not do that and that they had to call an on duty police officer to write a ticket.  I am not sure if they still use off duty police officers or not. 

The mall was also mentioned a number of times in a movie.  I can not remember the name of the movie or who the hell was in the movie.  It was about a middle age husband and his wife and well that was just about the entire story line except they went to the shopping center in the movie.  It was not a good movie.  Seems like it has some big male start in the lead but I can't remember his name.  He may hope that no one remembers he was in that movie.  I saw the movie on TV.  Thank God I never had to pay to see it.Tags: ward, parkway, kcmo, kansas city, mo, shopping center

Come and Vacation in Florida

The first time I came to Florida was in the year 2000.  I lived in Orlando for a couple of years.  I fell in love with Florida right away.  Orlando is a great place.  Just think the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, Busch Gardens, Wet 'n Wild, Sea World, Universal Studios are all in one place.  They are all in Orlando FL.  Plus all sort of other wonderful things.

Jimmy and I had to leave Orlando after two years and we moved to Texas.  I could not wait to get back to Florida.  I am now  back in Florida and I never want to leave again.  If you have not been to FL for a vacation you got to come and visit.  If your looking for a wonderful place to live your life then check out Florida.
Maybe we will run into each other at a park, beach or just out on the street.  Just think in the winter you can be out on the street here with just shorts.  In face I do not own a coat.

Colin Farrell's Penis

The times they are changing.  I have had some big months traffic wise here.  One thing after another bring lots of traffic to the world's first blog.  Now hits are back to normal and the search sites send people looking to see the penis of Colin Farrell.  Colin Farrell and Janet Jackson do not turn their bare butt on me and leave me alone.

Sure I still get a few 13 year old boys wondering how big their penis should be and being sent here.  But it is very small now. 

The people looking for "Little People, Big World" have left me now and I just have a few people looking for little man with a small mind and I mean, of course, Bush.

Next Week

BlogJet expired on me.  I can not afford $40.00 right now to pay for it.  It is an excellent program.  It lets you edit your blog off line and then upload it.  I recommend the program.

Because I am an old fart I get a free bus and rail pass but you have to renew it each year until you turn 65.  They failed to give me the pass for a life time so I have to go down this year and renew it and I hope get the new one and never have to renew again.

When I go down town to renew the pass I think I will take one of the boat out for a 2 hour tour.  The price is not bad and I have never done it.  I can get something to eat at the bay side mall.  I plan to do this on Monday.  I will have some photos for the blog of my "two hour tour."

My Update

I made it to the anti-Bush protest.  The people are extra nice for some reason.  I am not sure just why  they seem to always be so nice.  Maybe it is because they know we all share the same point of view.  I don't know what the reason is but they were all very nice.
I can't prove this statement but it looked to me like about 50 to 60% of the people that drove down the busy street were in support of the protest.  They were honking in support.  Some people you could not tell.  Traffic moves fast when the light is green.  Some were just looking down the road and not to the side.
I saw a about 7 or so people that it was clear they not only were Bush supporters but they were filled with hate for us.  It is not just that they gave us the finger.  A number of them, and they were driving, gave us both fingers.  But they had such a look of hate on their face as they were giving the finger..they looked like they were crazy.
