I have two versions of Windows on my computer and Linux SUSE 10.2 on my computer. But I am getting ready to try and install Ubuntu (Linux) on my computer. I am going to install the x64 bit version.
It is stupid of me to do it. But then I am stupid. Everything is working great on my computer and this may mess up the boot file or something.. I can't stop myself from trying it however.. God help me!
"Ubuntu is distributed over the Internet as CD image files, called ISOs. To install Ubuntu, you first need to burn its ISO file onto a CD. You need a working CD/DVD burner and an 80 minute (700 Mb) CD for this. This page explains how you can do it using Windows, Mac OS X, Ubuntu and Kubuntu. If the CD writing fails, try writing at a slower burn speed. The CDIntegrityCheck page describes how to verify the integrity of the finished disk. If your finished disk fails to boot when you restart your computer, please refer to the BootFromCD page..."
I downloaded it. It only took me about 30 minutes. My download rate was 357KB/s for a 699 MB file. (It took me hours and hours to download SUSE 10.2.)
Ubuntu recommend that you download a program called InfraRecorder.
"InfraRecorder is a free CD/DVD burning solution for Microsoft Windows. It offers a wide range of powerful features; all through an easy to use application interface and Windows Explorer integration..."
I downloaded the free program.
I just burned the ISO file to a DVD. It looks like it worked OK.
Right now I recommend this InfraRecorder program.
If your thinking about installing and running Linux check out an article by Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols that was written 01/24/2006 called Choosing a desktop Linux distro.
If you know of a more up to date article on the subject please drop me an email: [email protected]
Well I am going to try this install of Ubuntu. I hope I don't mess up my computer. It is not the programs so much it is all the passwords and codes that I have installed.
Linux falls short in one big area and that is support of webcams. I love my new webcam I sure don't want to have this install of Ubuntu wipe out my webcam.
