Long before the world wide web I had a bulletin board system on line. On Howard's Notebook, the BBS, we discussed all the issues. On the BBS we had discussions taking place on gun control, abortion, social security, prayer in schools and all the other issues.
There would be a statement of the pro and con side and then a message board with lots of discussion of the subjects.
I saw then that people just gave their opinion and feelings on each issue. I do not think I ever saw anyone say they had changed their mind after the debate.
Knowing what I know why do I feel compelled to yell and scream here about those same issues. I know that many of you do not agree with me. I know a few agree with me. I also know than none of you are going to say that I made a point or convinced you and you have changed your thinking on the issue.
So why do I do it? Is it ego on my part? Do I want to be able to say later "I told you so"?
I do not know the answer. One thing Howard's Notebook is sort of a diary. You can look back over the years and see what I was interested in and what I was happy about or upset about.
It is a place for me to vent all my feelings. I cannot go and open the window and shout "I am not going to take it anymore." (It would do no good to shout out the window unless I could speak Spanish.)
If you agree with me then I am just preaching to the choir and there is no point in trying to make believers out of people who already believe. I guess sometimes it is nice to know that someone does agree with you.
Last night Ken and I had pizza and chicken wings from Pizza Hut. The food was excellent. We watched "Norma Rae" on DVD. A great movie. Sally Field did a wonderful job in the movie. (She won the 1979 Oscar for her role in the movie.)
The director of the movie was Martin Ritt (1914-1990). He made great movies. The two I love the most are "Conrack" (1974) and "Norma Rae" (1979).
I love movies. I wonder if I should get a Blu-ray player.
