I was sorry to read about the death of Doctor Hoeper. I was not a friend or anything but did see him often and speak to him sometimes. He seemed like a very nice guy.

The Arkansas Republican Assembly prayed for rain to start two minutes before the Obama speech in Denver, Colorado on August 28th. It did not rain.
Now a major hurricane is heading for the United States and the GOP is trying to decide how to deal with it. Hurricane Gustav is going to hit two minutes before the start of the Republican convention.
It is funny. The Arkansas Republican Assembly believes in “…God, family & country…” Who here in the United States does not believe in God, family and country? They believe in traditional family values. We all believe in those things.
They also believe in “..Republican principles & ideals, limited government, free markets to promote innovation, & individual freedom…”
OK there I got to break with the ARA. Republicans do not have principles or ideals. I want limited government but I want the government to protect and defend the United States and we can not be a safe and secure nation if do not have health care, jobs and education. Government needs to be a part of that.
The “free markets” we know what that means and we have seen it and felt it. It means let big business fuck the little guy and do not enforce laws on wall street. We are for “individual freedom” and at one time Republicans were with us but not now. The Republicans are not for individual freedom. They want to control every part of our life.

Republicans got good news and bad news. The good news for them is that President Bush and Vice President Cheney will not attend the convention. The reason is Hurricane Gustav.
Republicans were not looking forward to having the worst president in history standing next to John McCain. Now he can skip the convention and they have a great reason. President Bush will be staying on top of Hurricane Gustav.
The bad news for the Republicans is that they need to hold their convention and they were planning on a big event and getting a lot of great PR. Hurricane Gustav is going to remind people of Hurricane Katrina and that is not good.
This is not good timing for the GOP. How can they been seen having a big party and doing the normal convention things when the United States is being hit hard by a major hurricane.
There is talk that John McCain may deliver his convention speech from the disaster zone. I see that as a major major error. It will look like he is just trying to use the hurricane stricken people for political reasons. I do not think that John McCain is that sort of person but that is how it will look.
You know how the right wing born again people say from time to time that 9/11 or Katrina was sent by God to punish the United States for some reason? Even some members of the GOP will reject those statements and try and put some space between them and those nuts.
Here you do have a monster storm, that may become a category 5 storm, heading for New Orleans on the first day of the Republican convention. Is God sending us a message? It looks like God is trying to punish the Republicans.
Let us all pray that we do not get hit with a major hurricane.
Then the Republicans can say that God listened to them blessed their convention and John McCain.

Right now it looks like they are on top of this hurricane. The scary thing is that the same people are in charge as three years ago. Remember last time President Bush was at his ranch in Texas on vacation as people were being killed in New Orleans. He and his people did not seem to know what was going on at the time. President Bush did fly from Texas but he went to AZ to have share a birthday cake with John McCain.
The above photo was taken on August 29, 2005 and Katrina had just hit New Orleans.
Where will the twins be when Gustav hits New Orleans this time?
President Bush was to be making a speech at the convention. John McCain and the Republicans do not want him at the convention and this may give everyone an excuse. President Bush will say he is sorry he can not attend due to the storm hitting New Orleans.

I know nothing about Gov. Sarah Palin. The Glenn Beck interview is the only thing I know about her. I was not impressed with her interview on Glenn Beck’s show. This was an old video from months ago.
Her fighting corruption in Alaska sounds good but I would like to know more about it.
I worry about her faith. I know that sounds real bad. We should be happy that she believes in God and will obey his laws.
The right wing are saying she believes in creationism and is opposed to abortion.
I have one question for her. How old is the earth?
If she believes that the earth is only 10 thousand years old then Houston we have a problem. Her father was a science teacher so she may believe in science and accept science.
We should not reject someone from office because of their faith but if she believes that the earth is only 10K years old then she is rejecting science.
How can we have someone as president of the United States that rejects science? Does she believe that the earth is flat? Would she fail to attack another nation, during war, because God would take care of the problem for us?
Sites are saying that her husband works for a union. Is he a union member or is a union employee? Republicans hate unions and union people.

The 2008 Republican National Convention will be held September 1 - 4 in Minneapolis/Saint Paul the twin cities.
They have Network Links listed on their website; Digg, Facebook, MySpace, UStream, YouTube, Twitter and LinkedIn.
It looks like they will have live video. If your a Republican you can get your fill of the GOP convention on their web site.
They have a link on their site for their blog.
"...The convention Web site will also feature six live streaming video
channels that will provide exclusive footage captured from within the
Xcel Energy Center, including the backstage area and Radio Row. In
addition, the site features state pages where people can connect with
other Republicans from their state, links to social networking sites,
and - of course - the Grand Ol’ Blog, the official convention blog..."
Their site looks better, to me, than the DNC site. I will see what happens when people try and watch their streaming video. The streaming video worked excellent from the DNC site.

The other day I ordered, from Amazon, two 8 GB SDHC SanDisk SD cards. I got them today. Two of them only cost me $21.10 but I paid $13.45 for shipping.
I never use much of the memory I have in my cameras now but I always want more memory.
On my Casio 10.1 mega pixels camera before I could hold 303 photos on the 2 GB card. Now I can put 1245 photos.
On my Kodak 7.1 mega pixel camera before it was 418 and now it is 1689 photos.
That gave me a 2 GB SD card that I could move to my Treo Palm. In the Palm I had a 1 GB.
My first computer had 48K of memory. That was my Radio Shack Model I computer. I was so happy when it booted up and I saw 48K of memory.

I just watched a cute little video. It was “The Band’s Visit” and is rated PG-13 and was made in 2007. An Egyptian police brass band travels to Israel to play at the opening of an Arab arts center and wind up lost.
A very touching video. It was a winner at the Cannes Film Festival. It won Un Certain Regard prize. I recommend it.

(CNN) -- “John McCain needs what Kinky Friedman calls "a checkup from the neck up."
In choosing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate, he is not thinking "outside the box," as some have said. More like out of his mind.
Palin a first-term governor of a state with more reindeer than people, will have to put on a few pounds just to be a lightweight. Her personal story is impressive: former fisherman, mother of five. But that hardly qualifies her to be a heartbeat away from the presidency…”
I agree with Paul Begala that picking Sarah Palin is “shockingly irresponsible” and makes us wonder about McCain’s “age, health, and judgement…”
John McCain is trying to do what he can to win but he is not thinking about what is best for the United States.
I am not sure that picking her will help him.
I think that Mike Huckabee might have been a better pick. That would have got the hard core right wing people back behind John McCain and they all would have turned out to vote for John McCain. Many of them, I bet, would be praying for something to happen to John McCain after he was elected.
