My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. I love the United States so much I feel like I am letting down the United States. My favorite holiday should be the 4th of July. When I was a kid, I think my, favorite holiday was Halloween or the 4th of July.
When I was a kid, I am 67 years old now, on Halloween as soon as it got dark all the kids went door to door and we did it for hours until it get late and people would turn out their porch lights. You never heard of any problems and no one was worrying about us.
On the 4th of July you could get all sorts of fireworks and shoot them right in the city. Now you often can not shoot them in the city or you can only shoot off a limited time on that day. Even after the 4th I would have a lot of fireworks left over and we would play with our plastic rubber army men and dig them in the clay and toss lady fingers at them.
I have never been crazy about Christmas. Jim (my father) and Betty (my mother) did not make a big deal about it. I never got a lot of stuff. We had the money and I always had money in my pocket but they just did not make such a big deal of it.
During the 12 years I was married, to Darlene, Christmas was a big deal. She loved it and we had four kids so we did the Christmas thing big time.
I am now a Thanksgiving person. Tomorrow Ken, Russell and I are going to have a nice turkey breast, dressing, gravy and pumpkin pie. Ken will not get home until 2230 hours so our plan is to eat it very late.
1Billy Stolsworth, my cousin, was shot and killed years later in Dallas Texas.
The photo of us was taken in Kansas City, MO.
