Sebelius to be HHS Secretary

“WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Obama on Saturday asked Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to be his nominee for Health and Human Services secretary, according to two White House officials.

The officials told CNN that Obama is expected to make the announcement Monday afternoon. The officials asked not to be named because the announcement has not yet been made.

Sebelius, who administration officials say Obama seriously considered to be his vice-presidential nominee, has been rumored to be a top contender for the job for weeks.

The post is still vacant after the first pick, former Sen. Tom Daschle, stepped aside after questions were raised about his failure to pay more than $100,000 in taxes for use of a car and driver…”

  I wanted Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on the ticket as vice president.  When I did not get that I wanted her to get some other post.  It did not look like she was going to get a post but now they say she is going to be HHS Secretary.
  I hope her son or husband does not have something in their background that is going to sink her. You would think by this time that they would check the background on these people.
  Kansas lost is our gain.  I think she will be excellent.

Limbaugh’s first address to the nation

  I am watching Limbaugh’s “first address to the nation” on Fox  “news” right now.  It is a very poor speech.  The people at the Conservative Political Action Conference seem to like the speech.  
  He is not a good speaker but he also just seems to have some talking points written down.  He could use a good speech writer.  He is all over the place and his talking points do not fit with each other.

  I hope the Republicans follow all the advice that he gave them.   If the Republicans follow his advice that will be the end of the GOP.

  His advice is so bad for them that I wonder if he could be a agent of the Democrats.  He will be death for Republicans if they listen to him and millions listen to his radio show.

02/27/2009 Update

  I cancelled my doctor’s appointment for a month.
 
  My ex-wife is still in the hospital. 

  I made two loans via Kiva this month.  I am not sure I can do two each month but I did this month.

  I was still thinking of some sort of data plan for my cell phone.  I looked around and decided not to do it at this time.  I hope I can be strong and not sign up for a data plan for my cell phone.

  I also been looking at ham radios on line.  I need to buy one.  I was going to get one that was very good but not real fancy but Yaesu has a brand new radio out that I would love to have.  It is the Yaesu VX-8R.  It is not cheap.  I need to be strong.  I feel it calling me.  “Jim buy me…Jim buy me…”  I am sure I hear it calling me.

CPAC on C-Span

C-Span is broadcasting all of the Conservative Political Action Conference.  I switch by the channel from time to time as I search for something to watch on TV.  I will stop sometimes and watch and listen for a couple of minutes.
  They are a sad sick group of people and not in touch with the real world.  One guy was saying that President Obama and the other Democrats in Washington were a bunch of Communist.  One guy said to the group and the people watching on TV if your anti-union then your a conservative. 
  It just blows my mind that these people are so stupid. 

  If your a conservative then you believe in child labor.  If your a conservative then you do not believe in fair pay for work.  If your a conservative then you do not believe in the 8 hour work day and the 40  hour work week.  You do not believe in people being paid for over time work.
 

  If you are a conservative you should know history and understand it.  (All people should know history and understand it>) 

  It is like these people live in another world. 

  These people are talking about Marx and how the Democrats are Communist.  It reminds me of when President Truman was in office.  These people today sound just like the Republicans from the 40s and 50s.  
  If you are not an old fart like me then you will not remember the black listing and the calling people Communist.  The Republicans said President Truman was a Communist.  Yes, THE President Truman that is picked each year as one of the top of five best presidents of all time.  

  I called here, after the election, for the Republicans to re-build their party.  They are dealing a death blow to their party.  I think we are seeing the end of the GOP for the next 30 to 40 years UNLESS, and this is what they want, President Obama fails.  If we can not fix the economy crisis then the GOP could get some votes.
  That appears to be what they are working for…bringing down the United States.  They should take off those flag pins.  They care nothing for the United States. 
  When Limbaugh makes his speech to the CPAC will he repeat his statement that he wants President Obama to fail?  Will he say again in public that Republicans should do all in their power to smash the United States?   I guess it will depend on that amount of drugs that Limbaugh has in his system at the time of the speech.

Conservative Political Action Conference

  The National German Workers Republican party is having their conference right now.  I watched some of it online via CNN video.  The Conservative Political Action Conference is so sad.  I feel sorry for them.  They are a sad sick group.
  They do not have anything.  The only black man in the room was chairman of the RNC.  He called for all the young conservatives at the conference to stand up.  No one stood up.  He said all the young conservatives 18-35 to stand up and there was no one to stand up.
  I could only stand to watch a few minutes of the conference.
  Rush Limbaugh is going to be their main speaker.  Yes the man that has said that he wants the President of the United States to fail.  The man that is saying he does not want the president and the American people to fix our economic crisis.
  I bet the headlines tomorrow will be something stupid that Rush Limbaugh says at the conference. 

Cheese sandwiches for “deadbeat” parents

And by "deadbeat" parents, the article is referring to parents who are late with paying for school lunches. I don't know if I would call them deadbeats in this context and singling out kids sounds pretty nasty to me. The parents who call to thank the schools sound like the same compassionate conservatives that we saw too much of the previous eight years. That such a rich country can be so nasty to kids reminds me of why I found the right wingers so revolting in every possible way. I did not grow up in a family with much money but thankfully we were never in such a situation. I can only imagine how mortified I would have been if I was pulled from the school lunch line like this.

Faced with mounting unpaid lunch charges in the economic downturn, Albuquerque Public Schools last month instituted a "cheese sandwich policy," serving the alternative meals to children whose parents fail to pick up their lunch tab.
Such policies have become a necessity for schools seeking to keep budgets in the black while ensuring children don't go hungry. School districts including those in Chula Vista, Calif., Hillsborough County, Fla., and Lynnwood, Wash., have also taken to serving cheese sandwiches to lunch debtors.
Critics argue the cold meals are a form of punishment for children whose parents can't afford to pay.
"We've heard stories from moms coming in saying their child was pulled out of the lunch line and given a cheese sandwich," said Nancy Pope, director of the New Mexico Collaborative to End Hunger. "One woman said her daughter never wants to go back to school."
Some Albuquerque parents have tearfully pleaded with school board members to stop singling out their children because they're poor, while others have flooded talk radio shows thanking the district for imposing a policy that commands parental responsibility.

Anyone else reminded of Reagan and his infamous change to declare ketchup a vegetable? What miserable bastards treat kids like this?

  This should not happen.  I feel sorry for you if you think it is OK to pull a poor kid out of the lunch line and feed him a cheese sandwich in front of his friends.  
  All I can say to someone that thinks that is OK is that you are a Republican.

Fixing Health Care

  Last night one of the things that President Obama said was that he was going ahead with his plans to fix our health care system. 
  I  hope he can get the job done.  It is going to be hard.  The major corporations and the insurance corporations and the GOP will fight him step by step.
  We need to fix our health care system.  We national health care.  All Americans should have health care.  Plus the way the system works is very wasteful.  The paper work is a mess.
  I hope he can get Congress to fix health care.

  I have Medicare now.  It is national health care but it does not cover all Americans.  The President and Congress all have national health care but we need national health care for all.

  I had no health insurance for five years.  From the time I was 60 until I was 65 I had no health care.  I saw no doctors.  I had problems but they I did nothing about them. 
  I have a son that has Schizophrenia and he has no health care. 

  I worked at hospitals for over 30 years and I have seen the problems caused by people not having national health care.
  We need it and I hope that President Obama can get Congress and the American people to get it done.

Problems in Texas

  I called my ex-wife in Texas.  She is in the hospital.  She was very upset.  She can not call out long distance on the phone in her room so she was very glad that I called.
  Yesterday when I talked to her she told me how great her doctor was and how lucky she was to have him.  Today she was very mad at him.  
  According to her she said that he told her he wants her out of the hospital and that he needs the bed.  She said that the hospital social worker talked with her and said that they think she needs to go into a nursing home.
  Dar has a very hard time walking.  In order to get up and move around she uses her arms.  They put a port in her shoulder yesterday and it hurts.  The blood doctor also wants to get her medication amount correct and he thinks that will take another couple of days.
 
  I can not see her going into a nursing home for three days.  I asked her if they had a step down unit and she said no they want her in a nursing home.
  I think she just needs to go home.

  I have good news and bad news.
  The good news is Jimmy will be at home to help her.  The bad news is that he got fired two days ago.  I have not talked to him yet.  Dar said that Jimmy was out in the parking lot of the store and getting carts and a guy almost hit him with a car.  The guy drove out on the street and then cussed Jimmy out and Jimmy told the guy to “fuck you” and the guy said he was going to tell Jimmy’s supervisor.  They fired Jimmy of course.

  Jimmy is 32 years old and has always been very kind and loving and just a very nice person.  Jimmy does have Schizophrenia.  There is much more to the disorder than most of us understand.  Even when someone with the disorder takes their medication it is very hard for them to connect with people.  
  It is hard for people with the disorder to make it in life and to hold a job.

i776 phone and Boost Mobile

  I went to Radio Shack and got to see a i776 cell phone in real life.  I did not like the look of it.  I did not like the feel of it.  It looks cheap and feels cheap.  If I were out in public with an i776 phone and I had to use it I would want to hide so no one see me  using such a phone.
  I have a pre-paid cell phone plan.  I pay $100.00 a year and never use any minutes on the phone.  I have the plan on my Palm.  I do not have a data plan. 
  I wonder if I should look for a data plan for my Palm.  One that is about $40.00 a month and then they charge me x amount per minute for any phone calls.  It is rare for me to use the cell phone for a voice call. 

  My pre-paid plan is with T-Mobile.  I pay them $100.00 a year and that is for phone calls.  It is rare for me to use the phone.  I have gone months and never made or received a call on the cell phone.
  I wonder if I should get a “Sidekick” prepaid plan for the phone.  I could pay $30.00 a month and have unlimited email, texting, IM and web browsing. 

  I think I have been through all of this in the past. 
  One thing I was wanting was the GPS service.  I wonder if I should just buy a GPS unit.  I would not have to pay a monthly fee.  It would be one more item to carry with me.  Right now when I leave the house I have two cameras on my belt and the Palm cell phone.  My belt has room for a GPS unit.  Smile

President Obama made a great speech

President Obama made a great speech just now to a joint session of Congress.  It was powerful and he was honest in what has to be done.
 
  Gov. Bobby Jindal made a speech with the Republican point of view.  The Republicans feel he is honest and smart and they are looking to him to lead the party in the years ahead.  They see Gov. Jindal as a young smart honest man of color that can run for president.
  He did not make a good speech.  The content was old failed Republican garbage.  I feel sorry for Gov.  Jindal. 
  His speech just did not work.  
  They should not even of had him follow President Obama.  It would have been hard for anyone to follow President Obama and these are not normal times.
