Boys on the Side

  I just watched a great movie "Boys on the Side." 

"Boys on the Side is a 1995 comedy-drama film directed by Herbert Ross (his last film before his death six years later). It stars Whoopi Goldberg, Drew Barrymore and Mary-Louise Parker as three friends on a cross-country road trip. The screenplay was written by Don Roos.

Three unique women embark on a cross-country road trip: Jane (Whoopi Goldberg), a lesbian lounge singer in search of a new life after breaking up with her girlfriend; Holly (Drew Barrymore), a pregnant girl who just wants to escape her brutal boyfriend; and Robin (Mary-Louise Parker), an uptight real estate agent who has her own secrets (namely being infected with HIV). Robin puts an ad in the newspaper that she is looking for a traveling companion to drive across country to California with. Jane answers the ad and agrees to join Robin after her car gets towed during their meeting. Jane and Robin leave New York and travel through Pittsburgh to take Jane's friend Holly to lunch. They stumble across a knock out fight between Holly and her abusive boyfriend, Nick, over some missing drugs. They leave him there bound to a chair with tape after Holly hits him in the head with a bat to stop him from attacking Jane. Unbeknownst to the women, without medical attention, the blow Nick received to his head turns out to be fatal, as he stumbles across the floor and dies.

The three unlikely travelers then form a special friendship on their journey which sees them through ultimately tragic times…"

 

  I recommend the movie.  It was great. 

Water retention

  The last week or so both my feet and legs are so swollen with water they look and feel like they are going to explode. 
  I take a "water pill"  and it is Furosemide 40 MG a day.  I feel like the water is moving higher and higher on my body.
  I just took one 40MG tablet.  That is what the doctor has me taking each day but I am going to take one each six hours today and see if that helps.
  I do not think that will be a problem because you can take 20 MG to 600 MG each day for water retention. 
  In fact I am going to take one more right now and start the day off right.

OK I just took 40 MG more so I had 80 MG at about 0600 hours and I will try and remember to take 40 MG at 1200, 1800 and 2400 hours.  Of course if I see that I do not need it I will go back to my normal amount.
 
  I am not going to play Civ IV until the swelling goes down.  I been playing Civ IV for hours and hours and that has me sitting at this desk.  I know not good.

 

Update:  09/01/2010 0408 hours
  I think the 80 MG helped.  I did not take any again unless late last night.  I may do 80 MG early today and see if I can get the swelling down in my feet and legs. 

Netflix movies tomorrow?

  It is odd that the Netflix site and blog does not have information about the new streaming videos.  I been thinking we could watch them starting tomorrow (September 1, 2010) but I see no announcement about it.  Man their blog sucks.

OK, I found their press release on the Netflix site:

  I think tomorrow I may have the ability to watch 3000 streaming movies.  It will be interesting to see if I can find anything to watch now.

Google Earth

  Google Earth has updated their satellite photo images.  The resolution is even better now.  I checked out my old place in Belton and the place in Miami. 
  In the street view they drove their photo car through the condo lot in Miami.  So I can see the front, back and side views of the place. 
  I wish for street view they did not wash out signs.  I can understand why they are doing it.  But at least businesses it would be nice to see those signs.
  I may go back to the Miami view and see if I can see someone I know walking down the street.  I should check the bus stop in front of our condo I might see Jim Howard.  Smile

Blogging with some control

   I know I have said it in the past many many times but I am going to try and control my political blogging.  I am going to try and keep most of it out of ShowMeBlog.  I will still put it on Howard's Notebook.  
   ShowMeBlog should be my personal blog and I do no want to fill it with rants and screaming about the God dam fucking Republicans.  (See I am off to a good start right?  Smile)
   I am sure I will fail from time to time but I am going to try. 
   One thing ShowMeBlog has been is a view of what is going on in my life and what I am interested in and that has changed with time.
   I had a lot of post here about my chest pains and how I was expecting to die at any minute.  I had a lot of post here about my bladder control or lack of …. Man, I have put you guys through hell…  Those that are still reading this blog after all these years are saints or heroes or something…Not sure what you are…
   Most I guess are friends…Who else would put up with me.
   
   For September I am thinking about making a video blog a day.  I will not post it here.  In fact I am thinking I will not even post it on YouTube.  I might use one of my other sites.  It would be sort of a test to see how it works.  I might not stick with it. 
   I have a site ShowMeVideo that almost no one visits.  I like the way it is set up and the way it works.  I never post a video there.  I have set up to get any video that I post on YouTube.  But I might just spend one month posting videos there and see how it works and what happens.  If I learn something you know me I will be telling you about it.

  I have over 100 videos on YouTube and I want to remove some of the stuff that no one is watching and that is just not getting any traffic.  Videos that have been there for years.  I think it would be a good idea to remove them… I just can not bring myself to delete them.

  See this time I remembered to say that I hated the Republican PARTY.  I need to remember to say I hate the PARTY and not the Republicans.  Some of my best friends are Republicans. 

AC Secondary Drain System

  We rent a second floor apartment.  For the last week or two a little pipe over the bathroom sink has been leaking water.  The pipe comes about 1 inch out of the ceiling. 
  I have had to be careful not to lean into look in the mirror or to hold my toothbrush in the wrong spot or it will get hit with water from the ceiling.
  Today I woke up from a nap and there was water on the floor. It was coming from a metal ceiling panel.
  I know very little about AC units.
  It seems that the AC unit outside on the ground has more to it than just that unit.  I guess the air runs through pipes and coils and condensation units or something and in my ceiling is a auxiliary and secondary drain system.
  I guess codes call for such a unit and that the "auxiliary pan drain shall discharge to a conspicuous point of disposal to alert occupants in the event of a stoppage of the primary drain."
  I was wondering why in the world would they put a drain pipe in the ceiling over the bathroom sink.  I know the answer to that now.
  The apartment repairman came over and fixed the problem for us.
  
   What I do not know about things would fill a lot of books.

   Oh..the repairman said if it  was not for that system up there we would get about 20 gallons of water a day on the floor.
   He also said the reason it was not draining is that there was moss growing in the thing and and he put a couple of big tabs of something in it to prevent that from happening.
  If you are a young person thinking about a job one day…Think about air conditioning installing and repair.  I do not think they can out source those jobs to India.  Plus in a state like Texas we will pay any amount of money to get our AC working.  Smile

Glenn Beck's "Honor" Rally had 96K People

  I was interested in the crowd size and been looking for numbers.  It seems that Fox "news" during the event ran a banner across the screen saying the crowd was estimated at 500,000!  Smile
  You got to wonder if they are laughing when they run a banner like that across the screen.  I see them laughing at the viewers.

  On the morning after the rally Glenn Beck told Fox News Sunday that he believed that the crowd was between 300,00 and 650,000!  

  CBS News commissioned a crowd estimate by the company AirPhotoLive and they came up with the number as 87,000 people.  They say there is a margin of error of 9,000 so the number of people at the rally was between 78,000 and 96,000 people.
  You can believe who you want but I am going to go with the AirPhotoLive numbers.
  That is not a bad turn out of people..I would expect a lot more since Glenn Beck has a big following and plus he has been plugging the event on Fox "news" for a long time.  Still not a bad turn out.
  I wish we could get some honest comments from people there.. I think they must not have been happy… I think they wanted to go and hear him rip and tear into President Obama and the Democrats.
  I do not think they wanted to travel to Washington DC in August and  hear Glenn Beck preaching religion to them.  Many, if not most, of those people are not to crazy about him being a Mormon. 

  I guess there are people wanting to see Glenn Beck run for President of the United States.  Smile

Looking forward to September 1st

  September 1st will be here soon.  I am looking forward to it.  On the 1st I get my hospital retirement money.  I get $175.00 each month for 18 years of service.  It is not much but it helps.
  Since I am in Texas I hope that we will start to have some nice weather soon.  August has been hot. 
  This September 1st Nexflix will add a log of movies that we can watch streaming.  I hope I can find something to watch.
  I should just give up and order cable TV. 
  I have done Blockbuster and Netflix in the past.  I like Netflix best because of the streaming video.  But have not been able to find any DVD to order and a hard time finding anything to watch streaming.  I am getting on DVD again "The West Wing" and I have seen it in re-runs and got it on DVD from Netflix in the past.  I hope there will be something I can watch.

  I like the start of a new month or a new year.  I think that I am going to do things or not do things and nothing changes.   But I think I am going to turn over a new leaf (*).

Grandpa error

  Russell works about 20 plus hours a week.  Many days, like today, he has to walk an hour to get to work.  He seems to get sick a lot but he never misses a day of work. He works sick.  
  Yesterday when he was working and I was taking a nap we lost power for a little bit.  When I woke up I had to re-set my alarm clock.  I took the time off my computer.  My computer is plugged into a UPS unit.
  Well … I bet you can see where this is heading…
  I was to wake Russ at  0430 today.  The alarm did not go off.  The alarm clock said 0606 but my computer said 0506.  I checked my cell phone and it was 0506.
  I woke up Russ.  He did not get upset… I was half expecting him to be mad. 
  I guess I set the alarm clock wrong but on the time being wrong…I think my computer was wrong after the power loss and I think it set to the correct time at midnight.
  I had better get the time from the cell phone from now on.
 
  That is one of the things I do not like about my life now that I am not working… I never know what day it is or what time it is ….  If I get out early in the AM to mail a DVD or get donuts and I see people going to their cars to go to work.. I want to be going to work.  I do not feel that way in the PM.  If I am out and I see them coming home I do not think I wish I had been at work today.
 
  I never did think that I would be retired one day. I never did think about it.  I just was thinking that I would be working until I fell over one day. 
  I would still be working if my prostate had not gone to hell on me.  I am not sure I knew anything about a prostate in the past.  I am not sure there is anything you can do to keep your prostate working correct.  My guess is that drinking water might help.  My prostate and entire body never saw any water…I fed it Coke and I suspect that was fine for when I was young but I pay for it now.
 
  There are going to be a lot more old people like me around for the next few years.  Young people are going to start seeing more and more of use and my guess is that young people are not going to like it and at the same time … It may force them to think about when they get old.. They may start to decide how they want to live when they reach our age.  I will be 70 in March.
