Studying the PDF doc for my new camera

  I am studying the pdf how to file on my new Sony camera.  I always turn off digital zoom.  I just use the optical zoom.  I also turn off flash.  I do not like flash and never have…even before digital cameras.  In the old film days I was one of those people that liked to shoot film using just available light.  I also liked black and white film for the longest time.  I did get into color for a long time and that was an error.
  My oldest daughter has my love of taking photos.  One reason, I think, is I gave my kids my old cameras.  I oldest daughter loved my old (film) camera and was late going to digital.
  Digital is so great.  You can take all the photos you want and not have to worry about film cost.  You can see them right away and get them on your computer.  It is so easy to share them with people.

                                                 I loved 35 mm SLR cameras.  (I wish I could afford a digital SLR camera.)  I think the camera I enjoyed most, for some reason, was an old twin-lens reflex camera (TLR). 

  Now I never owned a Rolleiflex.  I had a cheap one from Sears or Wards.  I think it cost a little over $100.00 at the time.
  I took a great photo of my father with the TLR camera.  I got right up in his face with the camera. I think it is the best photo of my father.
  I always pass on my cameras to my kids.
  I think those days are over.  They can afford their own cameras now. 
  Plus one of my sons does not love cameras the way I do.  He is happy with some cheap piece of crap.  It drives me crazy.  He makes a 100K a year and can afford any camera he wants and he buys the cheapest digital camera that WalMart sells.  My other son I have given him a couple great digital cameras and I have told him what great cameras they are and he turns around right away and sells them on eBay.

  I will keep my Casio EX-Z1080 camera.  I love some of the functions of the camera.  The "BestShot" menu is great.  It has 40 types of photo shots you can take and you can pick them from the menu.  It has eBay, photo IDs, YouTube, food, business cards, white boards etc.  It is great.
  I guess I will carry the Sony with me now all the time and the Casio will be the camera I pick up when I want to do something special with it.  My ex-wife calls me to come over and take some photos of stuff she is going to sell on eBay (VHS tapes, DVDs etc) and I will use the Casio for those shots.
  
  I do love photography. There are some great photography blogs on the web.

"Dexter" TV show inspired teen killer

  On October 12, 2007 I posted the following on ShowMeBlog.

"I watched two of the shows from the first season of "Dexter" on DVD today.  It was different that is for sure.  After seeing two shows that was enough for me.  I have no desire to see any more shows.
   I think shows like this are trash.  It is too bad they even put this sort of stuff on TV or into movies.
   There will be a few sick people that will see Dexter as a hero.  They will think what he is doing is wonderful and they would like to do it.  There will be a few others out there in TV land that want to murder someone and they are going to study the show to see how best they can do the crime and get away with it.
   Someone will pay a heavy price for a stupid TV show."   Dexter

CNN has the story of a 17 year old boy that was inspired by Dexter to kill.  The boy killed his 10 year old brother.  He strangled him.  

 

 

Pens that write

  I been looking for a Parker Jotter ball point pen.  I have not seen any Parker pens.  So today I paid $9.00 for 12 Bic retractable ball point pens.  My God, they write as soon as you try them.  Not like the other crap I been buying.  These pens were made in Mexico.  The last package of pens I got was PaperMate pens and none of them write.  You have to keep trying with each one and then they will start working.  Then the next time you want to use them you got to do the same thing. 
  I wish I had magic powers…I would make all the pens in the offices of PaperMate the ones I been buying. I would make all the pens at their stockholders meeting the crap I been buying. 

Should moms stop blogging about their kids?

  I saw the headline on the CNN web site and decided to read it.  I read a lot of stuff about blogging and bloggers.  I did not think any of it would apply to me for some reason.
  Then I read it and it made me start thinking again…Should I say anything about my family in my blogs?

    Now the woman in the story, I guess, her entire blog seems to be around home and life with the husband and kids.  That is her material.  I do not blog about my family but I blog about what I worry about or if I see my kids and do something with them.  
    When I lived in Miami with my son for over five years he did not want any information about him in my blog..zero…I think I did the best that I could …but it made it hard. 
    Now this female blogger is a success at blogging.  It is reported that she makes at least $40K a MONTH from her blog.  Her husband quit his job to help with the blog and her other projects (books and other stuff). 
    Now people might say she should not blog about a child if the child does not want it.  On the other hand the blogging is paying for everything.  The food on the table, the roof over their heads …everything.  

    In my case I do not make any money blogging.  It cost me each  month.  Sometimes I might comment that I got a few dollars from Google AdSense or something…But I always pay out much more than I take it.  So I do not have to keep blogging to pay the bills.  I could have a few extra dollars each month if I did not pay hosting fees, domain fees and the other things that come up all the time.

  Interesting article … I love reading about other bloggers…I love seeing and reading about them making money. 
  I do not think I will ever make money from blogging.  I have made a lot of friends around the world.  It just knocks my socks off that there are people that have been reading my blog for years. 

Singer Eddie Fisher dead at 82

"(CNN) -- One of the most popular singers of the 1950s, Eddie Fisher, has died. He was 82.

Fisher died of complications from hip surgery, said Michael J. Wilkie, a publicist for his daughter Carrie Fisher.

He died Wednesday at his home in Berkeley, California, the publicist said in an e-mail to CNNRadio.

Although Fisher sold millions of records and had his own television show, his biggest claim to fame may be his high-profile marriages to Hollywood starlets Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor and Connie Stevens -- all of which ended in divorce.

He had two more marriages after that…"

  I was never a fan of Eddie Fisher.  He was big back in his time and marrying three top female stars was something to think and talk about.
  I am not sure what sort of hip surgery he had done.  I am going to guess that he fell and broke his hip.  There are some people advanced in age that do not need hip surgery or sure do not need hip replacements done. 

I hate Dexter

  I have Netflix sending me Dexter season 3 and 4.  I hate the show but Darlene wants to see it.  So today I get the first DVD of season 3.  She wants to use my laptop to watch it.  I told her OK but that she could not keep it for 30 hours this time.  It takes about four hours to watch the entire DVD.  So I know I am going to be without my computer for at least four hours today.  I will have to hook up the old desktop and use it.  It runs Linux so I can not do a lot of things.  I can not watch streaming video from Netflix.  I can not play my computer game. 
  Moving to Texas may not have been such a good idea.  Smile

New camera: Sony CyberShot DSC-H55

  I got a new camera.  It is a Sony CyberShot DSC-H55. It is a 14.1 MP digital camera with a wide angle lens, 10x optical zoom.  It was a gift.
  It will do 730p HD video.  I made a HD video for YouTube right after I got it.  If you want to see what the video looks like see – Microsoft Life Chat LX-3000 Headset video on YouTube.  It makes great videos.  People however do not need to see Jim Howard in HD.  Smile
  I will make a video review of the camera soon and post it on YouTube.  I want to play with the camera so more before I post a review of it.

 

The above  photo was taken with the new camera.  I am holding the camera in my hand with my arm out.  The camera has a "Intelligent Auto Setting" and the photo was taken with that setting.  I was surprised that the flash went off. (I hate flash.  I  have hated it all my life.)  The eating place was very bright.  I  turned off the flash and took the photo again.  You could not see my face in that photo.  The window behind me was so bright the it got that backlighting.  So the smart setting sure was correct.   Like I said I will do a review of the camera very soon.  The HD video is great.  The 10x zoom is great.  There are a few things I do not like.  Video coming soon.

Thinking and typing at 3AM – may not be a good idea

  My grandson is sleeping so I am the only one using any bandwidth right now.  I just used www.speedtest.net and connecting with a server in SC I got a download speed of 11.56 mb/s and upload of 2.09 mb/s.
  When I test using a server in Modesto (CA) I get 18.27 Mb/s down and 1.98 Mb/s up.  How sweet it is.  I can remember when I connected at 300 baud.  When I went to 1200 baud I was so happy and now I get 18.27 Mb/s.
  I am in Fort Worth (TX) and I pay $44.00 a month for m Internet service.

  I just used my high speed Internet connection to check and see if I won the lottery.  I had a "Cash Five" (Texas) ticket with the numbers 03, 08, 20, 26 and 31.  The winning numbers were:  01, 08, 12, 16 and 19.  I did not win.
  I checked my Powerball ticket and my numbers are 12, 17, 50, 51, 56 with power ball number of 16.  The winning numbers are:  10, 24, 36, 52, 56 and power ball number of 16.  I did not win the $25 million dollars.
  I had a Texas Lotto number of 09, 10, 15, 21, 35 and 52. Did I win the $3,400,000.00?  No, the winning numbers were:  02, 04, 08, 18, 22 and 30.

  I been looking, online, at cameras.  I been thinking of one of the small pocket webcams.  But right now I am thinking about a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H55 camera.

  I been looking at reviews of the camera and sample videos from YouTube. 

  I have had a Fisher Space pen for as long as I can remember.  I must have got my first one right after they went on sale.  Over the years I lost a few.  Well for the first time I had one break. I have no Fisher Space pen.  I feel lost.
  I can remember when I worked at TLH that Cross pens were the one to have.  I can remember my boss running around like crazy because he lost his Cross ball point pen.  I had my space pen in my pocket.  I was thinking he was being silly.  Now I feel lost.
 
  When I worked security you did a lot of writing.  I am not sure I needed the 40 cal handgun on my side but I sure as hell needed a pen in my hand.  When you work at a hospital everyone around you is writing and it seems all the time.  Paper work all the time.
  I tried to remember to carry a second pen with me.  Someone would always ask to use your pen and I did not want them to walk off with my space pen.  If I handed someone a Parker Jotter ballpoint pen people would often comment about how well it would write.  I guess I will be buying one today.

  I downloaded Vegas Movie Studio HD 9.0 today.  It is for making videos.  It is like Windows Movie Maker.  I can use Vegas Studio for 30 days and then if i want to use it I got to buy it.  It cost about $45.00 for that version.  I can tell already that it is one hell of a program.  It beats the hell out of Windows Movie Maker.

  I should worked in an office supply store.  I love pens, paper, notebooks etc.  Or maybe I should have worked in the supply room of a school or something like that… I would have had all the stuff around me.

  Well I guess you don't love me.  (Smile)  I posted on all four of my main blogs to please subscribe to my YouTube site.  I wanted to get 500 subscribers.  I only got one new subscriber.  It looks like it is going to take me a long time to get to 500.
