I am going to be 70 in March. I bet every old man my age did many of the same things I did when I was a kid. I collected stamps when I was a kid. Later in life I collected a few first day covers for stamps that were put out and that I loved. I had the Harry S. Truman FDC and the one for Kansas City etc.
A friend just sent me three gifts in a priority mail box. He did not print out a shipping postage label he put real U.S. postage stamps on it.
It has some great stamps on it. One is for Gene Autry. One brings back memories and it is for Kate Smith.
Kate Smith had a television show. It must have been on when I was in high school and I was in high school between 1955 and 1959. I can remember coming in from school and turning on the TV set and Kate Smith would be on and singing “When the Moon Comes Over the Mountain.” I missed a lot of school. When I would stay home from school I always felt better when her show came on because I felt like … OK school is over and the police are not going to come and arrest me for skipping school. (They never did things like that but I felt guilty skipping school so felt better when her show came on because that was when I would have come home from school.)
You have to remember that there may have only been two or three TV stations on the air at that time. So I did not have a lot of choice as to what I could watch on TV.
It is rare for me to mail something now days. I miss postage stamps but I do not miss mailing things. Someone needs to create some sort of email service that uses digital images like postage stamps. A person could pick a “stamp” they wanted to appear or they could pick different choices depending on other factors.
You know IncrediMail would be great for that. In fact a person could do it just using that program.
