I was not happy with President Obama on his tax deal. But he did some good things done in the lame duck session of Congress. I have not been happy with President Obama from the start. I wanted him fighting kicking ass and being on the attack. That is not President Obama. I guess he is right correct to do it the way he did.
Racism has something to do with it. He can not be a loud angry President of the United States.
It is just just like President Nixon going to China and making a deal. A Democratic president could not have done that at that time. The Republicans would have had his head. They would have said he was a Communist selling out to his read masters.
So we got the President Obama we got.
I just wish that the term of office was one six year term for the President of the United States. I hate these first terms when a president does everything to make sure he can get elected a second term. We need the term of office for the President of the United States to be one six year term. No second term for them.
In January when the next session of Congress begins there is going to be a lot more of Republicans in Congress.
The House has their rules and they are the same each time a new Congress starts.
The Senate on the other hand decides on what the rules will be each new Congress.
So for this Congress I would like to see the Democrats change the filibuster rules.
Republicans have just been saying we will filibuster such and such law and then nothing happens unless the Democrats know they can get 60 votes.
The following is from a story from Dan Friedman in National Journal.
“…Among the chief revisions that Democrats say will likely be offered: Senators could not initiate a filibuster of a bill before it reaches the floor unless they first muster 40 votes for it, and they would have to remain on the floor to sustain it. That is a change from current rules, which require the majority leader to file a cloture motion to overcome an anonymous objection to a motion to proceed, and then wait 30 hours for a vote on it.
“There need to be changes to the rules to allow filibusters to be conducted by people who actually want to block legislation instead of people being able to quietly say ‘I object’ and go home,” said Sen.Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.
This year, McCaskill lined up backing from more than two-thirds of senators for elimination of secret holds, which allow a senator to block action on a bill or nomination anonymously. She said that Democrats will also push plans to force senators who place holds to do it publicly…” National Journal
The idea of the filibuster sounds great. I have seen “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” many times. But that was not real life.
I wonder how many times in the history of the United States has the filibuster been used? How many times was it used for the good of the United States? How many times in recent history has the filibuster been used for the good of the United States? I have the feeling that is never.
The Republicans have been using the threat of the filibuster and the Democrats been giving up.
Should they do away with the filibuster? I do not know. But they need to fix it so that the Republicans can not use the threat of a filibuster. You filibuster or you do not should be the rule.
The filibuster is not in the Constitution of the United States. It is just a rule of the Senate. There is very little in the Constitution of the United States.
This next session of Congress is not going to be pretty. The Republicans are to come in and try and change things back to the times of President Bush. Hell, they want to change things back to the times of President Hoover.
I hope that President Obama and the Democrats in Congress are ready to Fight Fight Fight for the United States.
