Today Virgin Mobile customers will be watching their Samsung Intercept phones for word of an update to android. We are waiting for android 2.2 (froyo).
At midnight some people started waiting and watching their phones for the update. Of course I am sure the VM is going to start doing the update during normal business hours.
If I were them I would have had staff come in hours early and start the updating.
I bet today is not a good day to be working for Virgin Mobile. Think of all the customers that are pissed off and waiting for the update. Think about all the customers that are not going how to get the update installed on their phones. Think about all the updates that will not work for some reason. Not a good day to be working at VM.
Plus a lot of customers think that the upgrade is going to fix all of their problems. My guess is that most of the people that get the upgrade will not even notice any difference on their phones.
I am waiting for the upgrade. I know that it is going to give me a few improvements and a phone that is going to work a little better.
I like my Samsung Intercept and I am happy with the Virgin Mobile service. I am happy with the service because of the cost. I only spend $25.00 a month for 300 minutes of phone calls and unlimited data. I do not even use 300 minutes of phone calls and I use very little of the data.
Virgin Mobile has a lot of pissed off customers and that is not good. Some customers are going to leave VM and never return. I think most customers will stay because of the low price and the fact that you do not need to sign a contract. But many of those customers are not going to be the loyal fans that VM should have as customers.
I do not know what the numbers are but it is much better to keep a customer than go out and get a new one. VM spends a lot of money trying to get new customers and one of the most important things they need to do is keep the customers that they have and get.
The moral of this sad story is this. Don't buy Samsung products and expect to get updates.
