Review of Medicaid status of Nursing Home Residents

  OK I read the headline and I said to myself here it goes.  Texas is going to kick people off Medicaid and they are nursing home “patients.”
  I am a liberal Democrat so I was ready to blast Texas for their actions.
  But if you read the story it looks like the nursing home gets people turned over to it from jail when they get out and 27 of them are sex offenders (nursing home says only 15 to 20).
  To have Medicaid pay for their care they need to meet the definition of “medical necessity” for long-term nursing home care.

  I do not know the facts but I am guessing that the nursing home finds it to their advantage to sign people up for Medicade.  It does not appear that there is checking going on.  In this case there was a TV news report that got the attention of the Inspector General.
  Republicans hate government employees and want to cut government employees but I think we need inspectors out and going and checking on places like this often.  They should not just accept paper work sent to them even if a doctor has signed off on it.  Well they could accept it but right away get an inspector out to go and check.
  The Republicans are correct that money is being wasted because of fraud.
   I think even Democrats agree that there is massive fraud in Medicare and Medicade.

  Of course under the watch of President Bush and the Republicans (May 2003 to June 2004) we sent $12 billion in cash to Iraq. The cash weighed more than 363 tons and after some audits more than $8.8 billion is missing.  President Bush and the Republicans have no idea what happened to the money.  We can not find it now.

  You would think that Democrats and Republicans could work with each other over the issues of fraud in Medicare and Medicade but I am not sure they can.  The Republicans think that everyone is ripping off the system and just want to do away with the safety net.
  I wish they could work with each other and just fix the issue of fraud.

There are many abandoned senior citizens in most public adult daycare centers and come to think of it, who will be responsible to take care and to provide their needs, none right? If the government cares, they should be taking charge of the seniors necessities.
