David Gergen (CNN Senior Political Analyst) says that we need a leader like Churchill. (I am from Missouri and we need a leader like Harry S. Truman.)
Here is part of what Gergen says:
“…Finally, Churchill understood the importance of a leader raising a banner, setting clear goals, and marching out in front -- especially in a crisis. None of his advisers would have ever said he "leads from behind"; that was inconceivable. Nor would he, as the European Central Bank has just done, have ever said that his approach to a problem was one of "constructive ambiguity." Who can take confidence in that?…”
David Gergen is wrong. What we need is a “Loyal Opposition.” We do not have a loyal opposition in the United States at this time. We have the Tea Party/RepubliCONs.
“In parliamentary systems of government, the term loyal opposition is applied to the opposition parties in the legislature to indicate that the non-governing parties may oppose the actions of the sitting cabinet – typically comprising parliamentarians from the party with the most seats in the elected legislative chamber – while maintaining loyalty to the source of the government's power. The concept thus permits the dissent necessary for a functioning democracy, as the policies of the governing cabinet can be challenged without fear of being accused of treason against the state.[1] The idea of inquisitorial opposition that held the executive to account emerged in Great Britain.”
