Big change

  ShowMeBlog has been hosted by TypePad since 2003.  It has been a good run but I think it is time for a change.
  I am going to start forwarding the domain: 

ShowMeBlog.Com    to      http://www.1982bbs.com/

I will decide later on some decisions about what I will do with the ten years of data here on ShowMeBlog.  Do I want to transfer it over or just leave it here. 
There will be other decisions that I will have to make. 

  TypePad is an excellent service but Blogger is where I have Howard’s Notebook and the design is so much more easy there.
  As you know I been messing with the look of ShowMeBlog on TypePad for years and just never found a look that I loved.

  Giving up on ShowMeBlog/TypePad after ten yeas maybe a big error for me.  We will see what happens.

The T takes you places

  When I lived in Miami I got a bus and rail card that let me ride for free because I was over 65 years of age.  That was nice.
  I live in Fort Worth (TX) now and because I am old I have a pass that lets me ride for half price.  A normal bus rider day pass is $3.00 a day.  So I can get a bus pass for the day for $1.50 and that is not bad.

  Well The T (Fort Worth Transportation Authority) has a service called MITS for Mobility-Impaired Transportation Service.  They pick you up at your door and take you were you want to go and then bring you back when you are ready. 
  If you are approved I found out something… MITS passengers pay $2.75 one way so it is not cheaper.  But if you are approved for MITS you can get a MITS +1 card and then you can ride on their regular bus routes for free.
  I think I will see if I can get approved for MITS and then get the MITS +1 card.
  Now to be approve for MITS I have to have a verified disability that prevents me from riding the regular city bus service. 
 
  My “disability” would be that trips that take two or three buses are a real problem for me.  My bladder does not empty completely so I go often.  It is a real problem for me to go anyplace if there is a delay.  I have to not drink anything for hours and hours before I go but even then it is a problem. 
  Now my mobility is not bad… I can move pretty fast when I am trying to find a bathroom. 

  But my doctor has a couple of places that he sends people for tests and there is no bus line near the test site.  So I have to take a cab and it is about $25.00 each way.
  So I think I can get him to fill out the form for me and if I am approved I will just use it when I need to use it.
  We will see what happens.

   I miss the bus and rail service in Miami.  The bus service here is pretty good but what was nice about Miami  was the rain service that cut across the city. 

New theme for this blog for today!

  Messing with templates or themes for the blog again.  I never stop. 

  I downloaded Zorin OS  and have the image file now.  When I get time I will burn it to a DVD.
Not sure if I want to install it or not.  It looks interesting. 
  It is based on Ubuntu and I have that on my computer now.  But Zorin OS has the right idea.  They are trying to make their software look like Windows and feel like it so that Windows people will feel at home.

  I downloaded a trial of 123 Video Magic Pro.  Neat idea but not for me.  When it starts up it does not let you pick the camera.  In fact no way to change the camera.  So when it started up it picked and started WebCamMax.  Of course WebCamMax started my camera but 123 Video Magic Pro is just not going to work for me.

  I just saw a dam good movie.

Kansas lawmakers pass ‘Sharia’ law bill

  God help us… I am not sure that the United States is going to last.  How can our form of government last when the American voters are so stupid?

 

“TOPEKA -- A bill that would ban the use of foreign legal codes in Kansas courts — broadly written but particularly aimed at Islamic “Sharia” law — is on its way to the governor.

The 33-3 Senate vote came after a long and at times emotional debate Friday.

Opponents, including two senators who signed the committee report to bring the bill to the Senate floor, called it intolerant and unnecessary.

Proponents fired back that the bill would protect the U.S. and Kansas constitutions and prevent the use of foreign law to take away fundamental rights enjoyed in American courts.

Sen. Tim Owens, an Overland Park Republican who is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, apologized for putting the Senate in the position of having to vote on the bill, which passed the House 120-0 earlier in the week.

  Kansas an entire state filled with stupid people. 
Did you see what the vote was on passing the anti-Sharia law?
It was 120 to 0 in the House and 33 to 3 in the Senate.

Florida Mom Who Fired A Warning Shot Gets 20 Years!

“Marissa Alexander, the 31-year-old Florida woman who fired what her family calls a warning shot at her abusive husband, was sentenced Friday morning to 20 years in prison.

Alexander was convicted of three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for firing into a wall near her husband and his two young children at their Jacksonville home in 2010. Alexander has maintained that she wasn't trying to hurt anyone and that she was standing her ground against a man who had over the course of nearly a year punched and choked her on several different occasions. Alexander says that she believed she was protected that day under the state's Stand Your Ground Law, which gives people wide discretion in using deadly force to defend themselves.

A judge and a jury disagreed.

The State Attorney's Office offered a plea bargain that would have sent Alexander to prison for three years, but she rejected it, hoping to convince a jury that she had been defending herself when she fired the weapon…”    Huffington Post

What is interesting and scary is that the prosecutor in this case was Angela Corey. 
  I think the danger in Florida is state prosecutor Angela Corey.  It is not just this case but the other cases she has been trying over the years.

Playing Tropico 4 for free

  Steam has Tropico 4 for free this weekend.  I been playing it for a few minutes.  I did the Sandbox mode. 
  I picked Castro to be me.
  I feel right at home playing it.  I remember before Castro took power.  I remember when he took power.  I remember when he came to the United States and Ike and the Republicans refused to talk to him or even see him. 
  The Republicans told him he was a dirty Communist pig and to get the hell out of the United States.
  After a week or two here he went back to Cuba and Moscow told him he was a great hero and would give him anything he wanted.
  After a while Castro announced that he was a Communist and that the United States was the enemy and the USSR was Cuba’s friend.

  I remember the Bay of Pigs.  I remember Radio Havana Cuba.  I even remember Radio Free Dixie and Radio Swan.
 
  I remember it all.

  I will play some more of Tropico 4 tomorrow and see if I can change history. 

 

GMail is working for me

  Just a little bit after I posted the last entry about GMail not working it started working for me.

I am so used to Gmail working all the time for me that I was shocked when I woke up from a little nap and decided to check my Gmail and I got the message:

“We’re sorry, but your Gmail account is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience and suggest trying again in a few minutes.”

  Oh NO Temporary Error 500 and numeric code 21.

  Others are having the problem.  I am sure they will have it fixed soon.
