Virgin Mobile and Samsung Intercept and Android 2.2

  Tomorrow was to be the release date for Android 2.2 for the Samsung Intercept by Virgin Mobile.  My son and I been waiting for it.  We each have a Intercept with Virgin Mobile.
  I went to the FaceBook page of Virgin Mobile (Facebook page) and people are saying there that VM is saying that the date has been pushed back to the end of the month.
  I want them to get the release right but I also the upgrade.

VM Android 2.2 upgrade for Samsung Intercept

  I been waiting and watching for the new android 2.2 upgrade for my Virgin Mobile Intercept.  They said it would be about the 25th of March.  That is today.  Now they are saying it will be on April 4th.
  They have a lot of unhappy customers posting on their Facebook page.

Wishing my life away

  At my age, 69 and soon to be 70, I should not be wishing it is any later than it is …But I will be glad when summer is here.  I hate cold weather.  It is not even that cold here in Fort Worth.  I am not sure what I would do if I lived in the Missouri or someplace where it gets cold.  I think I would just go to bed and sleep until summer.

  On or about March 25th Virgin Mobile is going to upgrade my Samsung Intercept to Android 2.2.  (Well not just mine but all the Samsung Intercept phones.  )
  That is a nice upgrade to Android and will add some needed fixes and improvements to the phone.
   Android 2.2 is called Froyo and the major improvements is speed improvements, JIT optimization, the Chrome V8 JavaScript engine and Adobe Flash support. 
 

  It looks like it will be a nice improvement to my cell phone.
  But it will be about one more month before I see it.

Samsung Intercept

  Remember how I just paid $$229.00 for my Samsung Intercept at Best Buy?  Well Virgin Mobile has it for $199.99 and they have a new phone.  It is the LG Optimus V.  It is Android 2.2.
  There is a better android phone coming this year to Virgin Mobile. 

So I am happy with the phone I got for now.

New Virgin Mobile Phone Soon

  It sounds like Virgin Mobile may have a new phone soon.  It sounds like it will have a 4.1 WVGA screen.  It will have a 5.0 MP camera.  The will be Android 2.2 and 3G and WiFi.  It will have an HDMI output and a Snapdragon processor.

  I am using the Samsung Intercept with Virgin Mobile right now.   I just paid for it last month.  I also just moved into a new apartment and am paying more money and I expect the utility bill to be more each month. 
  I do not think I can afford to be buying a new Virgin Mobile phone unless I win the lottery.  I better start buying a lottery ticket  each week because it sounds like the cell phone that I want.

  With a 5 MP camera I might just sell my digital camera and just carry the cell phone and use it for photos.  I hope they hold off on coming out with the new phone so I do not have to consider which body part I can sell to get the phone.

Google Latitude

  I told you about Google Latitude.  I been using it.  You will see the map on my blogs; ShowMeBlog, Howard’s Notebook and Show Me Fort Worth. 
  If I go someplace my location will change on the map.  I think it is pretty neat.  I guess that shows that there is something wrong with me or that I do not have much of a life. 

  How does Google Latitude know were I am?  I have the Google Latitude android app installed on my cell phone. 

                                                             
   If you click on the “google.com/latitude” link at the bottom of my map it takes you to a big map with more details. Plus you can zoom in and do all the normal Google Map stuff.

 

                                                                                                               

  If you are the one running Google Latitude then you have other options.  You can see your history and edit the history and even play a video of your history.  Pretty neat.
  I can see a lot of good uses for this.  I can see a lot of people using it for evil.  I think it is neat but I fear we are going to hear that some bad guys use it for the wrong reason.

  One of my grown children travels all over the United States all the time.  That person could turn it on and I could track them.  It could be a big safety thing.
  The problem I see with Google Latitude is the battery drain.  It sucks the life right out of your battery.  Because if you run it when you are out and moving around it is running plus it has GPS running all the time.
  I was running it 24/7.  But today I set it so that I have to turn it on.  Now I have to remember to turn it on when I leave the house.  And I have to remember to turn it off when I get back home.  I heard there was a android app that you can get that you can tell it to do such and such when such and such happens.  So I could set it to turn on Google Launch whenever I am not using WiFi.  Because I use WiFi for my phone when I am at home.  Anyone know the name of that app?

  You know me.. I just got to remind you that before there was android or an iPhone I played with this map and location thing right here.  I was using Amateur (Ham) radio.  There was a map on my site and  used my ham radio and APRS and you could see me moving on the map. 
  You guys broke my heart.    Because you did not care one little bit.  No one said how cool or how neat or said anything.
  I still think this entire thing is neat.

Looking at the Android Market

  I moved my desk again.  It is about to fall apart.  I have moved it so many times.  I used cable ties to bundle up the cables and everything.  I got everything plugged in the UPS now.
  I need a docking station for this laptop.  They do not cost that much.  I need to get one soon.  I need the extra usb slots and I want the ability to just unplug one cable and take the laptop.

  It is Monday now and Wednesday I plan to get an android phone.  I will be using it via WiFi around the apartment here.  I can be watch something or listen to something as I do the dishes or cook something etc.
  I been looking at the Android Market for a long time.  I do not remember when I started but it was over an hour ago.  I looked at all of the free applications and made a list of the ones I want to get.  There is 23 on my list right now!
  The phone I am getting the Sumsung Intercept I suspect has some problems if you load it up with a bunch of applications.  I guess I will find out on Wednesday.
