Earth Day is a day early each year on which events are held worldwide to increase awareness and appreciation of the Earth's natural environment. Earth Day is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year. In 2009, the United Nations designated April 22 International Mother Earth Day. Earth Day is planned for April 22 in all years at least through 2015.

The name and concept of Earth Day was allegedly pioneered by John McConnell in 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco. Earth Day was first observed on March 21, 1970, the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere. This day of nature's equipoise was later sanctioned in a Proclamation signed by Secretary General U Thant at the United Nations where it is observed each year. About the same time a separate Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in first held on April 22, 1970. While this April 22 Earth Day was focused on the United States, an organization launched by Denis Hayes, who was the original national coordinator in 1970, took it international in 1990 and organized events in 141 nations.   I am surprised and shocked.  I commented about him many times here and I never had a kind word to say for the asshole.  He was a world class creep.  I do feel sorry for his wife and children.  I am sure they loved him and will miss him.
  No one should die at age 43.  Fox News under their coverage is saying he died of “natural causes” and I find that hard to believe. 

  Less than a month ago he was outside the CPAC meeting in a drunk rage screaming at Occupy Protesters.  So, at the very least, he had a big time drinking problem.  I wonder about what sort of drugs he was doing and maybe mixing with alcohol.

Be a good friend to your prostate

  When you are an old man with a bladder and a prostate you can look forward to waking up every few hours to take a leak.  I am not sure if there is anything a young man can do to take care of their prostate. 
  I guess we need to come up with some benefit to waking up every few hours during the night. What I have to watch out for is eating and drinking something when I wake up.

  So I wake up and I check my email.  I get fewer emails at night. 
   I check CNN and check some blogs. 
  
   I live near a CVS and a Walgreens I wish they were open 24 hours. 
   At night there is not much open.  There a couple of convenience stores open 24 hours.  Both of them are about six blocks from here.  I never go to them. 

   Most of my life I worked the midnight shift.  On my days off I would stay up and keep the same hours and clean house.  For about a year I went to a casino and would gamble every night.  That was fun to have an entire casino to myself.  No waiting for a machine.  No lines.  That entire year I kept track of how much I won and how much I lost.   I had a lot of winning nights but at the end of the year when I did that math, of course, the house won and I lost.

   What is something you can do at night that you can not do during the day?
   I guess I could take up astronomy.  If I lived around a wild life area I could take up photography of nocturnal creatures. 

   Keep in mind that I do not own a car.  So I am limited in what I can do and were I can go.
 
   I should study and upgrade my ham license.  I should get a general class license.  Then I could get on the shortwave ham bands and talk around the world.  
   There are some very good and cheap shortwave receivers now days.  Radio Shack even sells a couple.  I could buy one of those and listen to some shortwave radio stations late at night.  That reminds me about cable TV.  I pay a lot of money for cable TV channels.  I am happy with all the channels but why in the world do so many of the channels run infomercials all night long?  A lot of people are up all night.  There are a lot of people that work the third shift (midnight or graveyard shift) and it sort of seems like a slap in the face to them.  (Sometimes when you work the midnight shift you need a slap in the face to stay awake.)

   If you are a young man take care of your prostate and then you can sleep all night like a normal human.  Not sure how you take care of a prostate however.

Social Security checks to rise 3.6%

  Happy days are here again!  Old farts like me (senior citizens) will get their first Social Security increase in three years.  We are going to get a 3.6% increase in January.
  Inflation has been low ( ) in recent years so we have not got a COLA increase since 2009.  It seems to us like cost have been going up every time we buy something but the government said the increase was low.
  Now, at last, we are going to get a COLA increase.
  I get $1155.00 a month from Social Security.  Of course they take out for Medicare almost $100.00 each month.  So I get each month $1,022.00 a month. 
  So each month I will get an extra $36.79 if my math is correct.  We have not received the notice from Social Security yet with the notice and with the amount we will be getting.

  So I will be getting $1058.79 a month unless they decide to increase the amount I have to pay for my monthly Medicare fee. 

  Of course just the other day I got the increase in fees that the Medicare insurance company will be making in 2012. 
  A few years ago I had a prostate cancer screening exam.  I forget if I had to pay for it or not but if I got one in 2011 I would have a copayment of zero dollars.  I do not plan to have one again but next year if I one I would have to pay 20% of the total cost.
  That is just a little sample of the stuff that is going to come up and happen.

  But I am glad I will be getting a few extra dollars each month.
  Social Security is an excellent program.  It works.  It is great. 
  Medicare is also an excellent program for older Americans.   All Americans need a program like Medicare. 

Increase in oral cancers linked to HPV

  Man that sucks.  There is no safe sex.  No wonder kids are playing video games and not having real contact with each other. 
  Anyone want to do oral sex with a condom on?   I do not think so.

 

“The human papillomavirus is contributing to the growing number of  head and neck cancers in the United States, according to a new study Monday in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

The study found that the number of cases of oropharyngeal cancer - cancers of the tonsil, back of the mouth (throat) and base of the tongue - has been on the rise since the mid-1980s.  The study suggests that one reason could an increase in the number of people having oral sex resulting in oral human papillomavirus  exposure.

Researchers say these cancers fall into two categories–those caused by tobacco and alcohol and those caused by the sexually transmitted virus, HPV. They now believe approximately 70% of all oropharyngeal cancers are caused by HPV infection…”   CNN

 

  God is evil!  Make a list of everything that is great and that you love to do.  Then make a list of everything that is bad for you.   Well hell… You can just make one list…  It will be the same list.  Everything that is something you love is something that is bad for you.

Jessi Slaughter Apologizes

  Some of you may remember the Jessi Slaughter story from YouTube.  I did a video about the 11 year old girl.

  Below is that video that I made.  It was made on July 18, 2010. 

  About six months ago her father was arrested for hitting her.

  On August 11th, 2011 she made a video saying she was sorry about her past.  She also said she had been in mental hospitals and was in foster care and was sorry for her past actions.  You can see that video under my video here.

  The reason I am updating this story is that four days after she made the video saying she was sorry for her past actions her father died of a massive heart attack.  That was on August 11, 2011.

 

Christopher Titus

  If you had asked me who Christopher Titus was before last night I would have had no idea.  But last night I was looking for something to watch and I saw his entire act on TV.  It was “Christopher Titus: Neverlution.” 

“Christopher Todd Titus (born October 1, 1964, Castro Valley, California) is an Emmy Award nominated American comedian and actor. He grew up in Newark, California. Titus came to national attention with the eponymous FOX show Titus.^[1], of which he was the star, executive producer and co-creator. Time called the show "brutal, hilarious and audacious", while Newsday called him "TV's most original comic voice since Seinfeld". He is also a stand-up comedian whose act revolves around his dysfunctional family and shocking life experiences.”

 

  I will be watching now for other comedy from him.  I hope he has a good life.  He has, like many people, had a hard life and many problems and I hope he has a great life from this time on.  He has some real talent. 
  I was surprised that his show was an hour and 30 minutes but I think that was just right.  Often you see a comedy act that runs an hour and it often is not long enough and you want more and the act comes to an end.  He had timing and everything down just right. 
  You see a lot of guys doing an act and they do not have a good ending and all of a sudden they just wave and walk off stage.  He nailed the entire “Neverlultion” act and the ending was great.

Fort Worth Community Garden

  The Star-Telegram has a story about “Fort Worth community garden is gaining growing recognition.” 

  I would like to see community gardens all over Fort Worth and in every large city in the United States.  Sort of a nation return to our old farms from the “old” days.
  It would help with food costs for people and it would be health for people to eat and good for their health to have them out working in a garden.
 
  If I was to win some big massive lottery win that is one of the things I would use the money for… Try and get the community garden movement up and running all over the United States.
  
  You know excess food grown could be given to organizations that feed the poor and homeless.  You could get school children doing it for schools.  Get their little asses out in the garden and away from the cell phones and video games for a bit.

  I hope the community garden movement takes off big time.  It sounds like it is off to a good start in Fort Worth.  But I do not think it will be a success here until I see one down the street from where I live.
