New theme for this blog for today!

  Messing with templates or themes for the blog again.  I never stop. 

  I downloaded Zorin OS  and have the image file now.  When I get time I will burn it to a DVD.
Not sure if I want to install it or not.  It looks interesting. 
  It is based on Ubuntu and I have that on my computer now.  But Zorin OS has the right idea.  They are trying to make their software look like Windows and feel like it so that Windows people will feel at home.

  I downloaded a trial of 123 Video Magic Pro.  Neat idea but not for me.  When it starts up it does not let you pick the camera.  In fact no way to change the camera.  So when it started up it picked and started WebCamMax.  Of course WebCamMax started my camera but 123 Video Magic Pro is just not going to work for me.

No computer for 24 hours

  I am a saint.  Darlene, my ex-wife, had her computer break.  So I took over my computer so she could do her eBay stuff.  It is my only computer.  It has all my stuff on it.  It is set to auto log in with my user name and passwords etc.
  I tell you the Catholic Church needs to make me saint.

  She has had my computer now for about 24 hours.
  I found an old junk computer here that Russell had messed with in the past.  It has duck tape holding parts in the computer and a memory chip laying on top of the computer.  It has XP on it.  It worked. 
  I found some parts around here and formatted it and put Ubuntu 10.1 on it.  But I forgot after all this time how to set up the partions.  So I had to install it about five times until I looked up how to set it up.
  It seems to be working.  I have not put in the memory chip yet that was on top of the computer.

  But I am back online.  I could check my bank account.  I paid the electric bill.  I paid the cable bill.  I made a $25 Kiva loan.
  Now I am posting to ShowMeBlog.
  I am back baby.
  I have not checked my email yet.
  I have not installed Skype (I use that for phone service.)

  I am going to have to get my computer back from Dar. 
  She is even more poor than I am and she makes a few dollars selling videos on eBay. 
  She needs  a computer. 

  If the duck tape will hold on this computer she may just end up with this piece of junk.

Fed up with Chrome and Flash

  I have been a big fan of Google Chrome for years.  I have used Chrome under Windows and Linux. 
  But for a long time now it has been giving me problems.  It is a problem with Adobe Flash.  Lots of other people been having the same problem and Chrome does not seem able to fix the problem.

  I am sick and tired and fed up with the problem.
So today I am going to go back and start using Firefox.  I am going to miss Chrome.

Dual boot: Windows 7 and Ubuntu

  I hooked up my old desktop computer today to play with Ubuntu (Linux) and there was some sort of problem.  Not sure what it was… I did not mess with it.
  So I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop with Windows 7. I now have it so it will boot into Windows 7 64 bit or Ubuntu 10.10.  I hope I do not end up sorry.

Software updates for Ubuntu

  A "Dexter" DVD came today so Darlene is using my laptop to watch it.  
I am using my old desktop and it runs only Ubuntu.
I see there are some updates.  One is Google-Chrome-Stable and some Sun java updates.
I use Chrome on both my Windows (laptop) and Linux computer.

  I am going to update now. 

Chrome for Ubuntu

  The Google version I was using was listed as "crossover Chrome" so I un-installed it and installed Chrome beta.  But in the listing it is still listed a the crossover and in the about it is not listed as beta.
  But I am running 5.0.342.9 (43360) Ubuntu

  And the problems seem to be fixed.  So I think everything is OK.

Ustream working with Ubuntu?

  I just started working with the new install of Ubuntu and I think I got streaming video working! 
  I am sending video on Ustream and I think it is going out.  I do not have audio working yet.

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 and am upgrading to 10.04 LTS

  Well I formatted my entire hard drive and installed Ubuntu 9.10 and now I am doing the upgrade to v10.04 LTS.
  So I will not have Windows on my computer.  I hate to think of all the programs and photo and videos and information and data that I have loss.
  What about a back up?    Back up?  Back up?  Who needs a fucking backup?  Smile

  I just have nothing but problems with Windows. 
I should have upgraded to Windows 7.

  I do not have cable TV so I been watching a lot of streaming movies from Netflix but Netflix does not work with Linux.

  We will see how this works out. 

   I can see a lot of problems ahead for me.
  The number one biggest problem will be streaming out video.  I have had very look good luck sending out video with Linux.
  When I get this upgrade installed ... I will start to see what I can and can not do.

  I need three computers.  One that I can mess with all the time and change it and mess it up.  One with Windows and then a laptop would be nice.
  I have two lottery tickets for tonight.  Smile

WiFi problems again

  My WiFi problems are back.  I noticed Windows XP slow for the last day or two.  Then I started having problems with the WiFi connection.  I am not sure if the two problems are connected or not.
  Well now I can not get the WiFi connection to work with Windows XP.  
  I can boot into Ubuntu and it connect right away to my WiFi feed.
  
  I have had it with this WiFi connection for Windows.  I think it is some sort of USB problem with this computer or some sort of problem with my computer.
  I left a lot of networking cable in Miami when I moved.  I wish now I had paid to ship it here.  When I can come up with the money I am going to get some network cable and run it across the living room floor and into my room and hook up my computer the old way.  No WiFi for me with this computer.

   

Ubuntu 9.10

 
 

I got Ubuntu 9.10 installed.  It looks nice.  It is fast and seems to work well.

  Flash is not working for me right now.. I will have to work on that...

  The other thing is my printer is not installed.  Other people have the same problem getting the HL-2140 printer to work.  I will have to see what they did to fix the problem.  I NEED the printer working to print out shipping labels.

  OK I got the printer working thank God.

  This computer was just re-booting, under Windows, for no reason..  It will be interesting to see if it happens under Ubuntu.
