LONDON, April 20, 2009 – Canonical, the commercial sponsor of Ubuntu, announced today that Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop Edition is free to download from Thursday 23 April. Also announced were the simultaneous releases of Ubuntu 9.04 Server Edition and Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix (UNR)
The new release of Ubuntu 9.04 “Jaunty Jacalope” is scheduled for 04/23/2009. I am running 8.04 on two computers so I will be upgrading as soon as they release it.
Oh my God here is something I have got to get. It is a webcam and it is 3D. I could have so much fun with a 3D webcam.
Plus it should work with Linux on my computer. The price is $89.99 and they have it at Amazon.
I put it on my Amazon WishList. I am not sure when I can afford to get it but I will be getting one for sure. When I get it I will let you know how it works.

I see in one review that you get five pair of 3D glasses with the camera. Do I have five friends that want to watch me in 3D? Smile
The reviews of the camera are not great but that fact that it works with Linux is great.

I have Windows and Ubuntu 8.10 installed on this computer now and we will see what happens.
The install file is 483 MB and it took me about 30 minutes to download and I have a fast Internet connection.

I been getting a few phone calls. I have been polled three times. They were political polls. I have received two calls from groups. One was the ACLU. They wanted me to join and donate $50.00 and the other was a green orgaziation wanting to connect me with the office of my congressman to tell them not to drill.
It has been rare for my phone to ring. My ex-wife calls just about each day but other than her my phone gets no calls.
I could not afford to join the ACLU. I have been a member in the past and will support them again when I can afford it. (Membership is $20.00 a year.)
These people got my number from some protest that I signed up for on line. I am not sure which one. I suspect I am going to get a lot of calls between now and November.
I do not like posting political stuff here on Howard's Notebook. I am sure you do not like it. You do not need me preaching to you. I can not help myself I see something and get so pissed I just have to blog about it.
I have a number of blogs. I need to find one and put all the political crap on it. I just have to pick one and then the hard part is remembering to post the stuff on it and not here. Now some of the funny videos I would still post here.
Do not give up on me. I am trying to get my raving and rantings off of here. It would help if the candidates would run better campaigns. The only candidate that I like a great deal is Joe Biden.
I been playing Civilization IV for hours and hours each day. I like it now.
I am spending too much time playing the game.
I am starting to use Windows less and Ubuntu (Linux) more. I can not play Civilization IV when I run Linux and that keeps me from wasting a lot of time. Ubuntu will be out with an upgrade soon. I am looking forward to it. I recommend Ubuntu Linux.
I get so tired of all the crap on the Internet. Windows, I think, is the big problem. I know Linux is much better. I got a dual boot system and I can boot up into Windows XP or Ubunti.
My ex-wife called me about a computer problem. She went to some site and now she is getting pop up messages all the time and they pop up in her face when she is trying to do something.
She knows very little about computers.
She says she has a virus detection program on her computer. She said she has seen messages from it asking if she wants to scan but she did not know if she should scan or not.
“REDMOND, Wash. - Microsoft Corp. is scheduled to stop selling its Windows XP operating system to retailers and major computer makers Monday, despite protests from a slice of PC users who don't want to be forced into using XP's successor, Vista.
Once computers loaded with XP have been cleared from the inventory of PC makers such as Dell Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co., consumers who can't live without the old operating system on their new machine will have to buy Vista Ultimate or Vista Business and then legally "downgrade" to XP.
Microsoft will still allow smaller mom-and-pop PC builder shops to buy XP for resale through the end of January. A version of XP will also remain available for ultra-low-cost PCs such as the Asus Eee PC.

I got my Ubuntu problems fixed. I used Google search. I did a search for "medibuntu.list" problem. I found that other people had the same problem. It is something that Ubuntu needs to fix and I am sure they will soon.
People will try and install programs and files and sometimes will try the wrong one or type something wrong and it should not keep you from installing other files and doing updates. It should not say you got a problem and period do nothing. It should correct the problem for you.

I am not sure it makes sense to have the skyline of Miami and then have my comments that I am from Missouri. But I like that quote.
The Shuttle is back on earth and in Florida. They only have ten more times for the Shuttle to fly (thank God). They landed today. When I was in Orlando I could hear the double sonic boom when they were coming in for a landing.
I watched and took photos of a number of the launches from Orlando. Then I came inside and put them on the blog for you.
I would like to see a Shuttle go up from closer than Orlando.
Then maybe I have enough years left in me that I can see the Orion spacecraft go up. The first flight should be in 2015. I will be 74 years old (God willing).
My web pages load so fast now and everything is so new with the install of Linux. You should see the fancy stuff I can do with desktops. I have four desktops setup and I can move things between the desktops. It is sweet.
The system monitor display is much better than the Windows one. Plus your seeing correct I have FOUR CPU units. The screen above is when I was uploading a video to YouTube.
