“Cairo (CNN) -- Coptic Pope Shenouda III, the spiritual leader of Egypt's Coptic Christian community for nearly four decades, died Saturday, according to the head of the Egyptian General Coptic Association. He was 88.
"Shenouda III suffered renal failure ... due to the diabetes he endured for years," Sheif Doss told CNN.
The leader of the Coptic Christian community for 38 years, Shenouda was in poor health off and on for many years. He traveled to the United States to undergo medical tests last year.
Egypt's population is roughly 9% Coptic Christian, according to the U.S. State Department.
The Christian minority has been the target of a number of high-profile attacks in the past several years, including the bombing of a major church in Alexandria last January that left at least 21 people dead…”
I saw an interview with him on TV back a year or so ago. He seemed like a pretty neat guy. He also talked about the problem his church had in Egypt.
It is sad that people of the Book can not live in peace and love with each other.

It is good to see some action by the Catholic Church. Most of the time, they seem, to set back and not take action when wrongs are done.
One of the problems they have is that they have so few priest now days.
They need to allow married priest.
That might fix a few of their other problems. Of course I am sure it would create new ones.
I was a Catholic at one time. I, now, do not believe there is a god. I do think that a community of church people is often good for them.

I was born in 1941. I had Baptism and Confirmation. I attended Catholic schools all my life. I was an altar boy. I was the God father for some adults that joined the Catholic Church.
I will be 71 years old later this month.
For 70 years I have called myself a Catholic and listed myself as a Catholic.
I was married in the Catholic church and I planned to die in the Catholic faith.
But because of the political positions that Catholic Church is taking I can no longer call myself a Catholic. I will not allow Cardinal Dolan and others like him to speak for me.
Let the Roman Catholic Church take care of their sex abuse scandal and stay out of politics.

Speaking at Holy Trinity Diocesan High School in Hicksville, the spiritual leader of the Archdiocese of New York said the U.S. government is engaged in "an unwarranted, unprecedented radical intrusion." He told the crowd they "live in an era that seems to discover new rights every day."

Anytime the Catholic bishops of the United States meet there should be people outside with signs about the pedophile problem in the Church.

I say this because the Catholic bishops like to make public statements about how birth control is a sin and how women can not be priest and other statements like that…. But they do not want to talk about the problems of Catholic priest fucking little boys.

I understand that the bishops and priest do not think often about a woman’s vulva. They sure never think about a woman’s clitoris. We know they spend all their time thinking about the penis and testicles of little ten year old boys. But why is it “unconscionable” for a woman to have the right and the ability to use birth control if she wishes?
Yes study the issues and write and call Congress and ask that the tax exempt status be taken away from any organization that allows, promotes and acts so as to allow perverts to have access to little boys and girls even if the organization is a church.
You allow and fall to report sexual crimes against children and you do not get a tax exempt status. The Catholic Church should pay taxes and that money should go into a special account to be used by the department of HHS for children.

What a difference a day makes. As you may have heard, the White House announced a positive step forward to the recent comprehensive health care coverage debate. Catholics United has been calling for dialogue, and we are happy this outcome is even better than expected. Here's why:
The religious exemption clause has been expanded. The exemption will now include all religious institutions opposed to providing contraceptive coverage in their insurance plans, including Catholic non-profits, hospitals, schools and universities.
Insurance companies, not employers, will be required to reach out to employees if their employer’s insurance does not provide necessary services. This will ensure each employee has access to comprehensive health care coverage. This program will require no participation, no money and no referrals from Catholic employers. Religious institutions that object to providing contraception will be completely removed from this process as they may maintain a separate insurance plan according to their beliefs. In this way, it is even stronger than the so-called “Hawaii Compromise.”
This decision takes the positive step of moving the responsibility of providing contraception from a religious institution to the insurance company. It is in the best interest of insurance companies to provide essential preventative services, many of which are far more inexpensive than treatment. If an employee wishes to obtain contraception, that person can do so, free of charge and of their own free will, directly through the insurance company.
Again, today is a good day for both our Catholic institutions and for expanding access to health care. Catholic institutions will be able to protect their religious liberty and address any concerns they may have about violations of conscience. Additionally, employees of all faiths will still receive quality access to preventative care. We see this willingness on the side of the President to seek a solution as a positive step in furthering respect for both religious liberty and access to comprehensive health care.

Over the past few weeks, the Catholic bishops have initiated an unprecedented campaign opposing new health insurance rules that will expand coverage of contraception. Church leaders are angry that Catholic-affiliated hospitals, universities, and social service agencies were not exempted, and, for this reason, are now reading letters in all 19,000 parishes across the country publicly opposing the new rule.
Catholics United understands that contraception use is a sensitive issue for the Catholic Church, but it is hard to stomach this level of outrage when the bishops have been relatively silent on so many pressing issues of our day. Where was the public outcry over our nation's past use of torture or our involvement in unjust wars? Why aren't the bishops reading letters at Mass about the moral scandal of unemployment and poverty in America?
On top of this, many bishops are using misleading statements and unnecessarily heated rhetoric to intensify the conflict. In order to help set the record straight, Catholics United wants to make sure that you have the facts about the new health care regulations as they relate to contraception:
It saddens me that at a time when so many American families suffer from unemployment and poverty, the leadership of the Catholic Church reserves its loudest voice of moral outrage for issues related to human sexuality. I have commented on that subject many times here. That the Republicans are not the party of Jesus Christ. Jesus would not approve of the evil empire.
(Of course I am not sure he would embrace the Democrats.) But for sure He would not approve of the Republicans and their creed of money. The Republicans should be worshiping a golden cow or should it be a bull?

I learned a great deal, just now, from reading that information. I guess mostly the objection is high interest or charging interest to the people of your own religion or people that are poor.
A second teacher at the L.A. school arrested. He “fondled” two girls about 7 years of age. It might be true but could it have been he hugged two girls? I fear this smells of a witch hunt now. Plus the charge is that he fondled two girls in the class room and his bail is set at 2 MILLION dollars! It looks like they are going to make it so he can not defend himself.
Now the first teacher is guilty as hell. He needs a high bail but I do think $23 million is to high.
Right wing Republicans will not agree with me and the born again gang will not agree with me. But it is funny they support freedom of religion and gun ownership and they bow their heads and hold their hands up to God because those are in the Bill of Rights. Well the right to bail is in the Bill of Rights.
Now again.. I am sitting here on my ass in Fort Worth and I have no details on what is going on out in L.A. at the school but for this second guy I do fear false allegations of sexual abuse.
If I worked at that school doing anything I would be scared shitless right now. Mommy and daddy are going to be asking little kids scary questions and what are those little kids going to say?
Also I am sure that everyone is putting pressure on the DA and the police. They are going to be asking questions and looking at everyone.
My God let us not forget the McMartin case. That was such a miscarriage of justice that it brings shame to our justice system and to the United States.
I have seen reports on TV of other cases like it. One was a small town and a couple of people were charged with sexual abuse of a child or children and before long just about everyone in town was being charged and if you just drove down the highway in the town you might get stopped and charged with child sexual abuse.
I hope they find anyone guilty out there in L.A. But I hope they find people that are “guilty.”
If the second teacher is not guilty … Just think how he must feel. Sitting in jail charged with about the worst thing that you can be charged with and having everyone hating your guts and wanting you dead and your bail is set at two million dollars.
